Pranta Dutta ("we", "our", or "us") operates The Accountant mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile information provided through Google Sign-In (if used)
1.2 Financial Data
The App allows you to record and manage:
- Transaction records (amounts, descriptions, dates, categories)
- Wallet and account information
- Budget configurations
- Currency preferences
Important: Your financial data is stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database. If you choose to enable cloud sync, your data is transmitted securely to our servers for backup and cross-device synchronization purposes only.
We may collect:
- Device type and operating system version
- App usage analytics (screens visited, features used)
- Crash reports and error logs
- Push notification tokens
1.4 Receipt & Image Data
If you use the receipt scanning feature:
- Images are processed on-device using ML Kit
- Receipt images are not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly enable cloud backup
- Extracted text data is stored locally with your transaction records
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the App's core functionality
- Authenticate your identity and secure your account
- Synchronize your data across devices (when enabled)
- Send important notifications about your budgets and accounts
- Generate AI-powered financial insights (Premium feature)
- Improve the App's performance and user experience
- Respond to support requests
3. Data Storage & Security
3.1 Local Storage
- All financial data is stored locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database
- Authentication tokens are stored in secure device storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain)
- We use industry-standard encryption to protect data at rest and in transit
3.2 Cloud Sync
- Cloud sync is optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time
- Synced data is transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption
- Server-side data is stored in secured databases with access controls
- We implement optimistic concurrency control to prevent data conflicts
3.3 Data Retention
- Local data remains on your device until you delete the App or clear app data
- Cloud-synced data is retained as long as your account is active
- Upon account deletion, all cloud-stored data is permanently removed within 30 days

6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
